Memorial Day Holiday at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Rainbow Bridge National Monument
May 23, 2024
Dear Partners:
  1. Memorial Day Holiday Weekend Operations: As we prepare for this Memorial Day Holiday weekend, all visitors are encouraged to prioritize safety. Boaters should always wear life jackets. Additionally, everyone should be aware of potential congestion at visitor service points and take precautions for unpredictable weather conditions including heat, wind, lightning, and flash floods, etc.  Please note that we have recently experienced higher-than-normal winds. More safety information is available here: https://www.nps.gov/glca/planyourvisit/safety.htm. Prior to visiting, please be aware of current park alerts available here: https://www.nps.gov/glca/planyourvisit/conditions.htm. The park wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.
  1. Frequently Asked Questions – Castle Rock Cut, Mid-Lake Fuel: Lake levels are anticipated to be high enough for the Cut to become operable at 3583 ft. Above Sea Level (ASL). The park recently conducted light maintenance. Planning for restoring mid-lake fuel continues; however, it will not be completed this season. Please plan accordingly by having sufficient fuel for your vessel to get to your destination and back to your launch point.
  1. Lake Powell’s Busy Boating Season: As of May 22, the lake level was 3563.74 feet (ASL) and is slowly rising. For information about the status of National Park Service boat ramps and marina services on Lake Powell, please visit this website: https://www.nps.gov/glca/learn/changing-lake-levels.htm. Lake level information is also available 24/7 at these websites: http://www.lakepowell.water-data.com/ and https://waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/09379900/#parameterCode=62614&period=P7D).
Due to the complex mix of factors that affect Lake Powell’s water levels, boaters are asked to please be aware that it will not be known when the lake reaches a certain water level until it occurs.
