Family

Being that Kanab is surrounded by a staggering array of National Parks, State Parks, and National Monuments, it's a easy choice to pack up the kids for a family getaway.  With many family-friendly options you could spend a lifetime here.  But, if your time is limited, here is a suggested itinerary for a pretty great 3-day trip.

Day 1

Houston’s

Start the day off right with breakfast.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

Take a FREE tour.  Before heading to the sanctuary, stop by their Visitor Center in Kanab for some kitten cuddles and a free photo.  Enjoy the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet at the sanctuary for just $5 per person.  Vegan and vegetarian options only.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes

Head over to the Sand Dunes for an afternoon of fun playing in the sand.  Schedule a tour with Coral Pink ATV Tours ahead of time and meet their guides at the entrance.  Try out sand boarding while you’re at it.

Moqui Cave

Check out the dinosaur tracks, Native American artifacts, and the fluorescent mineral display.  Spend some time in the gift and rock shop.

Big Al’s Burgers

Experience a local tradition and the Junction for a quick and yummy dinner.

Stars and S’mores

Finish off the evening with a tour from Adventure Tour Company.  The kids will love riding in the big army trucks and s’mores are the perfect dessert after a long day exploring!

Day 2

Start off right

Have breakfast at Kanab Creek Bakery and grab a sack lunch to go.  Let our Adventure Maps and Kanab Trails App be your guide today!  Maps are available online, in your hotel lobby or stop by the Kane County Visitor Center to grab them.

Dinosaur Tracks

Start out with and easy, kid-friendly hike!

Sand Caves

These man-made caves are easily accessed and can be seen from Highway 89.  The hike itself is an easy half mile round trip.

Belly of the Dragon

Next stop and the perfect place to enjoy your sack lunch.  The tunnel runs under Highway 89 and is used as drainage for upper canyons that flow into the east fork of the Virgin River.  Do not enter under rainy conditions.

Thunderbird Restaurant

Head north to Thunderbird Restaurant for a slice of pie!  Learn the history of the “Ho-made” pie and the family-owned business.

Jacob Hamblin Park

Return to Kanab enjoy some time at the park.  With a playground, splash pad, skate park, basketball courts, tennis courts, and swimming pool it’s sure to keep the kids busy while you take some time to relax and unwind from your busy day.

Evening

Dinner at Escobar’s is a must when visiting Kanab.  Enjoy a walk along Center Street in downtown Kanab.  Do some shopping at Denny’s Wigwam, Gifts of the West, and Duke’s.   Stop by the Soda Fountain at Kanab Drug for an ice cream sundae or milkshake.  Finish off the evening at Nature’s Showcase for a one-of-a-kind sandstone souvenir.

Day 3

Breakfast

Have breakfast at Houston’s Trails End.

Peekaboo

Take a tour to Peekaboo Slot Canyon with a guide! The OHV’s are sure to be a hit with the kids!

Afternoon

Have lunch at the Lotsa Motsa Pizza.  Enjoy an afternoon playing in the water at Jackson Flat Reservoir.  In the colder months take a scenic walk around the paved, 3 mile Sherry Belle Trail that loops around the reservoir.

Rocking V

Enjoy dinner at the Rocking V restaurant.

Crescent Moon

Catch a movie at the charming Crescent Moon Theater.
