Toadstools

Have you ever wanted to visit another planet?  Well, this is the hike for you.  When you visit the Toadstool Hoodoos Trail, you will want to bring your camera to take pictures of these alluring natural wonders of balancing rock and hoodoos, with their unique colors and shapes.   

 

A toadstool is a rock formation which has a boulder perched on a rock of a smaller diameter like a mushroom or a “toadstool”.  The environment around this trail is the perfect condition for toadstool formations.  The reward at the end of the hike is a massive sandstone toadstool hoodoo. 

 

The Toadstool Hoodoos Trailhead is about 40 miles east of Kanab, off Highway 89 and within the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The hike to the largest Toadstool Hoodoo is a relatively easy, flat 1.8 mile out-and-back hike. Make sure to bring footwear appropriate for walking through sandy areas, take plenty of water, and keep dogs on a leash at all times.
